France’s Bini named coach of Chinese women’s team

FORMER France coach Bruno Bini was yesterday appointed coach of the Chinese national women’s football team.

“I’m taking over the Steel Roses. I’m in Beijing where I was presented this morning to the Chinese press,” Bini told AFP. Bini, 60, has been without a team since leaving the French women’s set-up after the 2013 European championships where Les Bleus were eliminated in the quarterfinals by Denmark. Under his guidance France finished fourth at the 2011 World Cup and at the 2012 London Olympics. China is traditionally strong in women’s soccer — reaching the final of the 1999 World Cup and the quarterfinals of this year’s tournament in Canada.
