Gerrard, Kyut stay

LIVERPOOL captain Steven Gerrard agreed to extend his contract with the club by another two years yesterday, tying him to Premier League side until 2013. The 28-year-old England midfielder, who has been with the Reds his entire career, followed manager Rafa Benitez in committing himself to the record 18-time English champion. Gerrard, who came close to joining Chelsea in 2005, now looks likely to stay with his hometown club until retirement. Liverpool, which is one point behind champion Manchester United also signed Netherlands international Dirk Kuyt to a new two-year contract yesterday. The 28-year-old Kuyt, who has shifted from being a striker to a midfielder at Anfield, is now contracted until 2012.
