Guangzhou claims title in debut season
GUANGZHOU Evergrande won the 2011 Chinese Super League title in its very first season in the top-tier with four rounds still left to play.
Guangzhou thrashed Shaanxi Renhe 4-1 in Xi'an yesterday which clinched the title for them. Led by former Chinese national coach Gao Hongbo, the home team scored first in the 26th minute before Guangzhou began its onslaught. Former Shanghai Shenhua forward Gao Lin scored a brace with former national team captain Zheng Zhi and CSL's most expensive foreign player Dario Conca netting the other two. Guangzhou thus becomes the first Chinese club to win a league title in its debut season, topping the 16-team standing with 61 points. Beijing Guo'an is distant second with 47 points after playing out a 1-1 draw with Shandong Luneng yesterday. Shanghai Shenhua is in 12th after beating Hangzhou Greentown 3-2.
