Guardiola tells Ibrahimovic to cool down his temper
BARCELONA striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic needs to control his temper and accept the decisions made by match officials or he risks letting down the team, according to coach Pep Guardiola.
The Swede, who moved to Barcelona from Inter Milan in the close season, protested a host of decisions in Barcelona's 1-1 La Liga draw at home to Villarreal on Saturday and was booked in the 88th minute for a reckless lunge at Diego Godin.
"He's a temperamental player and we need to be a bit careful because we might end up one day with 10 players," Guardiola said.
"Ibrahimovic needs to be strong and he is capable of doing it as he's a great player," he added. "He can't control the referees' decisions."
Barcelona leads with 40 points, three more than Real Madrid, which was to play Osasuna late yesterday.
Valencia, a 1-0 winner against Espanyol, has 32 points and Sevilla 30 after losing to Atletico Madrid 2-1 as the league resumed after the winter break.
After Thierry Henry's first-time volley struck the crossbar, Pedro Rodriguez knocked in the rebound in the seventh minute for Barcelona. But David Fuster judged his run perfectly to tap in Ruben "Cani" Garcia's looping cross at the far post for the equalizer in the 51st minute.
Despite the early goal, Villarreal settled into its passing game and Barcelona did not dominate possession. Villarreal midfielder Marcos Senna was particularly effective at breaking down the host's attacks.
