Hangzhou Greentown signs French coach Troussier
CHINESE Super League side Hangzhou Greentown has signed Frenchman Philippe Troussier as its new head coach for the new season, the club said on its website yesterday.
Troussier, known as the ‘White witchdoctor’, left Tunisians CS Sfaxien in September by mutual consent after the team failed to reach the CAF Champions League final. The 59-year-old has coached the national teams of Japan, Cote d’Ivoire, Nigeria, Burkina Faso and South Africa. Troussier had guided Shenzhen Ruby FC from 2011 to 2013 and joins his compatriot Alain Perrin, who coaches China’s national side, in the country, where several former high-profile managers ply their trade, including Swede Sven-Goran Eriksson who recently quit Guangzhou R&F and joined Shanghai East Asia, and Italy’s World Cup-winning coach Marcello Lippi who is the director of Guangzhou Evergrande, which he also managed from 2012 until this year.
