Hodgson named West Brom coach

ENGLISH Premier League struggler West Bromwich Albion has appointed former Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson, the club said yesterday.

"The 63-year-old former Inter Milan, Switzerland, Fulham and Liverpool boss has this morning committed himself to the club until June 2012," West Brom said on its website. Hodgson, who replaces Roberto Di Matteo, lost his job at Liverpool in January after a disappointing run of results. West Brom is just one place outside the relegation zone in 17th spot, two points above bottom club West Ham United. The club had a good start to the season under Di Matteo following its promotion from the Championship last term. However, a run of 13 defeats in 18 matches in all competitions resulted in the Italian being relieved of his duties last Sunday.
