Ibrahimovic makes Barcelona debut in Man City loss

ZLATAN Ibrahimovic made his Barcelona debut in a 1-0 preseason defeat to Manchester City yesterday.

The Sweden striker had several shots saved by Man City goalkeeper Shay Given after replacing Bojan Krkic to start the second half with the Spanish champions trailing from Martin Petrov's 28th-minute goal.

Barcelona held nearly three-quarters of the possession but failed to beat Given as coach Pep Guardiola mixed his regulars with many of the club's youth team players.

Lionel Messi also came on with Ibrahimovic, whose left hand was wrapped following bone surgery this month, to create the European champions' best opportunities. Jonathan dos Santos hit the post in the 71st before Ibrahimovic was twice stopped by Given.

Messi also hit the post in injury time as Man City won the Joan Gamper Trophy in front of a near capacity crowd of 90,000 fans. City has already started its season with a victory in last weekend's opening round of the English Premier League.

Barcelona, which is also defending the Copa del Rey trophy this season, suffered its first preseason defeat.
