Inter Milan draws 2-2 with Fiorentina
INTER Milan's jaded 2-2 draw with Fiorentina yesterday left AS Roma a chance to take over the lead in the Serie A.
Roma could move to the top of the table with a win over Atalanta today.
Inter has 67 points, two more than Roma in second place.
Fiorentina striker Keirrison gave Fiorentina the lead early on and the home side was in control for much of the match. Inter appeared tired after its Champions League win over CSKA Moscow on Tuesday.
However, Diego Milito equalized midway through the second half and Samuel Eto'o put Inter ahead with less than 10 minutes remaining. One minute later though Per Kroldrup scrambled in Fiorentina's second for a share of the points.
"We gave everything and tried our hardest to win the game," Fiorentina midfielder Riccardo Montolivio said. "In the end a draw is a fair result."
Inter came close to opening the scoring early on. Wesley Sneijder forced Sebastien Frey to push away his low shot and from the resulting corner Milito hit the post with a header.
Fiorentina took the lead in the 11th. Stevan Jovetic played Gianluca Comotto in behind the Inter defense and he crossed for Keirrison to score from close range.
Jovetic had a chance to double Fiorentina's lead shortly after halftime, but shot narrowly wide of the far post when one against one with Inter goalkeeper Julio Cesar.
Inter drew level in the 74th. Maicon hit the ball low across the face of Fiorentina's goal and Milito swept the ball into the net. Two minutes later he had the chance to score his second, but shot into the side netting.
With nine minutes remaining Jose Mourinho's side took the lead for the first time in the match. Balotelli hit a cross from the right and Eto'o glanced a header inside the far post.
Fiorentina hit back immediately. Inter's defense was unable to clear a corner and Kroldrup reacted quickest to hit home the loose ball.
"Inter put us under a lot of pressure," Montolivio said. "That tired us out, but we were able to find something extra and deserved to come back and equalize."
Parma beat Napoli 3-2 in the night's other game. Fabio Quagliarella gave Napoli an early lead and the hosts remained in control of the match for the rest of the half.
However, after halftime, two goals in five minutes from Luca Antonelli and Alessandro Lucarelli put Parma into the lead.
Marek Hamsik scored an equalizer 12 minutes from time, but after Quagliarella was sent off for a second yellow card, Luis Jiminez linked with Hernan Crespo to score the winner in the 87th.
