Jesus swaps Lisbon clubs
JORGE Jesus signed a three-year deal with Sporting Lisbon on Friday as he brought a six-year association with its bitter city rival Benfica to an end.
The move had been expected all week as Jesus, who led Benfica to the Portuguese title in the last two seasons, had already rejected an offer to extend his stay at the Eagles, while Sporting sacked coach Marco Silva on Thursday. “I can officially announce the recruitment of Jorge Jesus as the coach of our club for the next three seasons,” said Sporting president Bruno de Carvalho. Jesus, 60, is expected to earn 6 million euros (US$6.8 million) gross per year at Sporting, where he spent time as a player.
