Juventus signs Felipe Melo from Fiorentina

JUVENTUS signed Brazil midfielder Felipe Melo from Fiorentina yesterday.

Felipe Melo, who won the Confederations Cup with Brazil last month, transferred in a deal worth €25 million (US$35 million) after spending one season with Fiorentina following three years in Spain.

"I'm very happy to be here at Juventus and I can't wait to start work," he told the club's Web site. "I really believe in this squad and its new signings. We can compete with everyone and challenge in every competition, in Italy and in Europe."

The 26 year-old Felipe Melo has been a longtime target for Ciro Ferrara's side, and his move became a formality once he passed his medical on Tuesday.

He is Juventus' third major signing following defender Fabio Cannavaro and attacking midfielder Diego.

Marco Marchionni, meanwhile, will join Fiorentina for a fee of €4.5 million.
