Kalou commits to Chelsea with new contract
SALOMON Kalou has become the latest Chelsea player to extend his contract with the Premier League club, which is banned from signing new players until January 2011.
The Ivory Coast striker's contract was due to expire at the end of the season, but the new three-year deal ties him to Chelsea until 2012.
"I am very pleased that Salomon has signed a new contract with us as he is an important player for this club," Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti said yesterday. "He is always well motivated and works hard at his game at all times. Because of this, I am sure that Salomon will become an even more important player for Chelsea in the future."
The 23-year-old Kalou is in his fourth season at Stamford Bridge and has scored 31 goals since arriving at Stamford Bridge in the 2006 offseason.
He follows Ivory Coast teammate Didier Drogba, defender Ashley Cole, midfielder John Mikel Obi, winger Florent Malouda and captain John Terry in agreeing to new long-term contract extensions since the end of last season.
The Blues cannot sign any new players for the next two transfer windows after being found guilty by FIFA of inducing teenager Gael Kakuta to breach his contract with Lens two years ago.
