Kane injury mars Spurs’ last Cup 6-goal Milwall stroll at ‘The Lane’

AN injury to Harry Kane marred Tottenham Hotspur’s party as it marked its last FA Cup tie at the club’s White Hart Lane home with a 6-0 thrashing of third-tier London rival Millwall to book its place in a loaded semi-final line-up yesterday.

England international Kane, the Premier League’s joint top scorer, had to hobble off after falling awkwardly and suffering an ankle injury in a sixth-minute challenge during their sixth-round tie.

Yet his absence was not missed on the day as Son Heung-min hammered a brilliant hat-trick and Kane’s replacement Christian Eriksen also scored a beauty before Dele Alli and substitute Vincent Janssen got in on the act.

It all made for an emotional occasion at Spurs’ storied 118-year-old ground which they will leave at the end of the season.

Tottenham joins north London rival Arsenal and Manchester City in a strong semifinal lineup that will be completed after Chelsea hosts Manchester United today.

Although Spurs are into the last four of the FA Cup for the first time in five years, the bigger target is securing UEFA Champions League qualification. Tottenham is second in the standings but it will now be sweating on the results of the medical scans on Kane’s right ankle.

On Saturday, when Arsene Wenger named a full-strength lineup to face Lincoln City, any hopes the fifth-tier side had of competing with Arsenal should have been extinguished.

But the first non-league side to reach the FA Cup quarterfinals for 103 years defied the odds again, making its more illustrious opponent toil for 45 minutes before Theo Walcott scored.

After conceding five against Bayern Munich last Tuesday, Arsenal managed to score five itself — albeit against an English minnow — to avoid further embarrassment for Wenger on another day of fan protests against the manager.

With a 5-0 victory, Arsenal booked a trip to Wembley Stadium to give Wenger a chance of silverware in what could be his last season in charge.

“It was difficult; they knocked Ipswich, Brighton and Burnley out. They had a very direct game but they had clarity about what they wanted to do and they did that very well,” Wenger said.

City advanced with a 2-0 win over Middlesbrough secured by David Silva and Sergio Aguero.

There were also three Premier League games on Saturday.

Joshua King scored a hat trick to end Bournemouth’s nine-game winless run in the league and steer the south-coast team six points clear of the relegation zone with a 3-2 victory over West Ham United while second-half substitute Oumar Niasse scored twice inside 10 minutes to move Hull City within a point of safety with 10 games remaining following a 2-1 win over Swansea City. Also, Everton beat West Bromwich Albion 3-0.
