Keane takes over as Ipswich manager

ROY Keane was appointed the new manager of under-achieving Ipswich yesterday with the task of taking it back to the Premier League.

The 37-year-old former Manchester United midfielder, who left as manager of Sunderland in December, replaces Jim Magilton who was fired on Wednesday after failing to get the club into the playoffs. Keane got Sunderland promoted in his first season in charge in 2007 but it failed to make a big impact in the top flight. Ninth-place Ipswich was last in the Premier League seven seasons ago but has missed out on promotion again.
