Kolo Toure fails drug test for taking diet pills

Manchester City defender Kolo Toure failed a routine drug test just for taking his wife's diet pills, revealed yesterday Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, who brought the Ivorian international to England in 2002.

Manchester City announced on Thursday in a statement that "the FA has informed Kolo Toure that an A-sample provided by him has tested positive for a specified substance. As result of this, he has been suspended from participating in all first team and non- first team matches pending the outcome of the legal process."

Wenger, who coached the 29-year-old Toure for seven years before he joined Manchester City in 2009, said he has spoken to Toure since the story emerged and believed it's an incautious mistake.

"He wants to control his weight a little bit because that's where he has some problems and he took the product of his wife," said Wenger.

"It is a complete surprise," said the Frenchman. "I had Kolo Toure here for years, I brought him to England. He is a boy who has a clean life, very honest living, always at home and a family man.

"I think it is a mistake and he was not cautious enough. I don' t think there's a desire there to do something wrong and hide it."
