Last-gasp Shenhua rallies to tie Henan

SHANGHAI Greenland Shenhua’s last-minute equalizer provided some comfort for city fans as the three local Chinese Super League teams managed just one point between them in the 19th round held over the weekend.

Visiting Shenhua fell 0-2 behind to Henan Jianye after two-thirds of their game in Zhengzhou last night. Zhu Yifan and Huang Xiyang scored for the hosts in the 53rd and 61st minutes. Xu Liang cut the gap in the 87th for Shenhua on a direct free kick from 25 meters out, his shot curving over the wall of defenders to lodge in the right bottom corner of the net.

Argentina striker Lucas Viatri scored with a powerful header from a long Jiang Kun pass in the 94th to tie a thrilling game. Shenhua is now ninth in the 16-team league on 23 points.

Shenhua head coach Sergio Batista had criticized the state of the Hanghai Stadium pitch during his pre-match press conference, claiming it was “not suitable for a soccer match”.

Earlier, Shanghai East Asia lost 0-2 away to Beijing Guo’an. Montenegro striker Dejan Eamjanovic scored in each half for Beijing which is the only team that seems to be putting some pressure on league leader Guangzhou Evergrande. Beijing is now second in the CSL standings on 41 points, four points adrift of Evergrande which has played one game more. East Asia is fourth on 31 points.

In other games last night, Guangzhou R&F beat Hangzhou Greentown 3-1 while Liaoning Whowin and Shandong Luneng drew 0-0, a result which was repeated in the Harbin Yiteng-Tianjin Teda clash.

On Saturday, Shanghai Shenxin lost 0-1 at home to Guizhou Renhe, the sole goal coming in the 85th via Brazil midfielder Hyuri, who was left unmarked in front of the net. Guizhou could have won by a bigger margin, having hit the post and the bar in each half. Shenxin lies 13th on 19 points.

Also on Saturday, Marcello Lippi’s defending champion Evergrande sealed a comfortable 3-0 home victory over Jiangsu Sainty.
