Lazio beats Juventus 2-1, advances to cup final
LAZIO eliminated Juventus from the Italian Cup with a 2-1 victory yesterday, advancing to the final 4-2 on aggregate.
Mauro Zarate scored with a curving shot from beyond the area in the 38th minute and Aleksandar Kolarov doubled the lead in the 52nd with an even longer shot that was deflected past Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon.
Juventus captain Alessandro Del Piero came on in the 60th and scored four minutes later, stopping a cross from Mauro Camoranesi with his chest and finding the target from the center of the area.
Juventus played the final eight minutes with 10 men after Camoranesi was sent off.
Sampdoria takes a 3-0 first-leg lead to Inter Milan in the other semifinal Thursday.
The final is scheduled for May 13 in Rome.
Fans again shouted insults directed at Inter Milan striker Mario Balotelli. Similar incidents in a 1-1 draw with Inter resulted in Juventus being ordered to play its next Serie A match in an empty stadium because of the racist abuse directed at the player.
Balotelli, an 18-year-old Italian who was born in Palermo, is of Ghanaian descent.
An announcement made over the Stadio Olimpico's public address system asked the fans to stop the insults, and the fans responded by whistling.
Lazio goalkeeper Fernando Muslera pushed a header from David Trezeguet wide in the 58th and Pavel Nedved missed a good opportunity to equalize with a header that hit the post in the 74th.
