Lazio edges past Juve to reach Cup final

SERGIO Floccari scored in a frantic period of injury time to send Lazio into the Italian Cup final after a 2-1 second-leg win on Tuesday as Juventus saw its hopes of a domestic double destroyed.

Host Lazio, which drew 1-1 at Serie A leader Juventus in last week's semifinal first leg, seized the initiative eight minutes after the break when Uruguay midfielder Alvaro Gonzalez headed in Cristian Ledesma's cross.

Juventus piled forward for an equalizer, which it found in stoppage time through Arturo Vidal, but soon after substitute Floccari headed in a corner when he rose above the Chilean to send Rome's Stadio Olimpico into raptures.

Juventus coach Antonio Conte was banned from the dugout for the next two league games for a verbal attack on match officials at the weekend which pundits said was rich given Juventus' 2006 demotion for procuring favorable referees.

AS Roma leads Inter Milan 2-1 after their semifinal first leg last week but the return at the San Siro does not take place until April 17.

Roma decided with the league to play a Serie A match against Cagliari today instead of the second leg this week.

The final takes place on May 26.
