Lazio sinks Roma in wet, rainy derby
LAZIO splashed its way to a 3-2 derby win over AS Roma in atrocious conditions in Italian Serie A yesterday, helped by a puddle of water which played a crucial part in its second goal.
AC Milan's brief revival ended with a 1-3 home defeat by Fiorentina and Napoli scored three times in the last 15 minutes as it came from behind to win 4-2 at Genoa.
Roma had Daniele De Rossi sent off seconds before halftime for punching Stefano Mauri in the face as the pair tussled for the ball in the penalty area.
Erik Lamela headed Roma in front in the ninth minute but Lazio hit back with three goals in 11 minutes with Antonio Candreva and Miroslav Klose scoring before the break and Mauri adding the third immediately after the re-start.
Mauri was sent off in the 85th for a second bookable offense and Miralem Pjanic pulled one back from a free-kick one minute later.
On Saturday, Fabio Quagliarella's hat-trick helped Juventus crush Pescara 6-1 on to bounce back superbly from losing its unbeaten record to arch-rival Inter Milan last week.
Goals from Arturo Vidal, Sebastian Giovinco and Kwadwo Asamoah added to the margin of victory for the defending champion which climbed to 31 points at the top of Serie A, four ahead of Inter which was facing a tricky match at Atalanta yesterday.
"It feels good, it's my first ever hat-trick, that's always a good thing, but the important thing was to win, we won really well," Quagliarella told reporters.
"Inter is in the past, after a defeat you have to come back even stronger. We have to continue to work like we always have done, work on the errors we committed against Inter and now I think we've got back into our stride."
