Li signs a 2-year deal with Suwon
FORMER China captain Li Weifeng, whose suspension last year prompted the withdrawal of his Wuhan club from the Chinese Super League, has signed a two-year deal with Suwon Blue Wings, the South Korean club said yesterday.
The 30-year-old defender's eight-match ban for rough play during a match in October resulted in thousands of fans marching through Wuhan in protest and his club pulling out of the Chinese league.
"Li agreed to a two-year contract and details are not to be revealed, as agreed by both sides," Suwon said on its Website. It was unclear whether Li would formally transfer to the K-League champion, or be on loan from Wuhan.
Wuhan's withdrawal and his eight-game ban had left the defender in limbo, with no other Chinese clubs willing to sign him, his agent said.
