Liverpool defender to join Leverkusen

SAMI Hyypia will leave Liverpool after a decade at the club to join Bayer Leverkusen on a two-year contract at the end of the season.

Liverpool said the 35-year-old defender underwent a medical with the German club yesterday. The Finland international joined Liverpool in May 1999 from Dutch club Willem II. He has made 317 league appearances for Liverpool and was a key member of the side which won a treble in 2001. "The Finnish international has earned legendary status at Anfield for the part he has played in the club's many successes over the past decade - and he will leave Merseyside with the best wishes of every Liverpool supporter," Liverpool said on its Website.
