Local Man U fans have reasons to cheer
FANS of Manchester United have something to cheer about in Shanghai - a fan club that is backed by the English Premier League side.
The country's first Manchester United fans club - complete with a restaurant and a bar - will open in August along the Suzhou Creek at the renovated Sihang Warehouse in Zhabei District. While the official opening is still three months away, the owners are planning a soft opening in June - just in time for soccer's biggest spectacle, the FIFA World Cup in South Africa.
Stanford Zheng, general manger of the company that will manage the club, said they will broadcast soccer matches using the latest 3D technology on big screens and high-end 5.1 surround sound speakers.
"This is the best place to watch soccer matches outside the stadium," Zheng said. "We are doing our best to bring the best audio-visual effect for the fans."
The club can hold anywhere between 600 to 1,000 people.
Fans can also test their ball skills with a three-on-three matches, also known as PKO, in the center of the 3,800 square meter place.
"There are not many places to play soccer in the city," Zheng said. "I hope this club can evoke people's passion for soccer and sports."
The 18-time English league champion has a huge following in Asia. The Sihang Warehouse will be the club's first official fan club in China. Two more such clubs will open in the future, Zheng said.
