Matri brace powers Juventus
ALESSANDRO Matri scored twice to help Juventus beat Serie A title rival Udinese 2-1 on Saturday and extend its lead at the top to four points.
Matri, the Italy forward, gave the hosts the lead just before the break with a tap-in after Fabio Quagliarella's effort had been saved, but Udinese equalized on 55 minutes through substitute Antonio Floro Flores on the counterattack.
Parity lasted seven minutes before Matri's smart finish sealed victory for Antonio Conte's side amid snow and sleet in Turin.
Juventus and Udinese have been the surprises of the Italian top flight this season, with Juventus finally shrugging off the after-effects of a 2006 match-fixing demotion to flourish in its new stadium.
In England, Mike Williamson was the fall guy for Newcastle United as his 76th-minute own goal meant Championship (second division) Brighton and Hove Albion knocked out the Premier League side 1-0 in the FA Cup.
Fourth-tier Crawley Town stunned second division Hull City by the same score in the only other shock. Earlier, Chelsea beat Queens Park Rangers 1-0, while Liverpool booted out Manchester United 2-1.
In two all-Premier League ties, Bolton overcame Swansea City 2-1 at home and Norwich City prevailed 2-1 at West Bromwich Albion to also make round five. Last season's runners-up, Stoke City, progressed with a simple 2-0 victory at Derby County.
