BARCELONA forward Lionel Messi was punished with a fine and a booking on Tuesday for dedicating a goal to his mother on her birthday.
After scoring a penalty in Saturday's 3-0 win over Racing Santander, Messi lifted his jersey in front of a television camera to reveal an undershirt with the words "Happy birthday, mami!" written across it. The "Ballon d'Or" winner was not booked by the referee. Messi will be fined between 2,000 euros (US$2,736) and 3,000 euros.
