Miura, 48, extends deal for 31st season

ONE of the longest careers in football has been extended by a year after 48-year-old striker Kazuyoshi Miura renewed his contract with J-League second-division club Yokohama FC.

Miura will enter his 31st season next year. He scored three goals in 16 appearances for Yokohama FC this season, rewriting his own record as the J-League’s oldest scorer in June with a goal against Mito Hollyhock at the age of 48 years, four months, two days. Miura played for Brazil’s Santos and Italy’s Genoa early in his career, and represented Japan 89 times, scoring 55 goals, but never played at the World Cup.
