Oscar denies training bust-up with Costa

CHELSEA’S Brazilian midfielder Oscar has taken to Twitter to deny reports of a training ground row with teammate and Spain international Diego Costa.

British media reported on Thursday that the pair nearly came to blows after exchanging tackles in a training session ahead of tomorrow’s FA Cup third-round tie against Scunthorpe United.

“For those who are talking to me and @diegocosta struggle today in training he’s lying, he’s one of my best friends and never fight,” the 24-year-old Oscar said in a tweet.

Both players endured an indifferent start to the season under former manager Jose Mourinho, but have raised their game under the Portuguese’s replacement, Guus Hiddink.

They got a goal apiece in Chelsea’s 3-0 dismantling of Crystal Palace last Sunday, in what was the defending champion’s sixth Premier League win in 20 games this season.

Chelsea is 14th in the table and 13 points adrift of the Champions League places. Hiddink’s men host West Bromwich Albion and Everton in the league next week.

Meanwhile, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger hopes to complete the signing of FC Basel midfielder Mohamed Elneny by early next week after reported work permit issues threatened to stall the transfer.

With midfielders Santi Cazorla and Francis Coquelin out with injury, the Egyptian would be an welcome addition to the squad, which was stretched thin during the festive period.

“It’s complicated a little bit, but we are working hard on it and hope in the next two-three days we get to the end of it,” Wenger told reporters yesterday, ahead of today’s FA Cup clash against Sunderland.

“I don’t rule out anybody else but he will be at least one of the signings that some into the area we are short at the moment.”

Wenger has also set his sights on lifting the FA Cup for a third straight season.

“The FA Cup is an important competition as always. There is only one way to deal with the next game and that is to win it.

“We want to win every competition we participate in and the FA Cup is one of those.”
