Paris racism victim snubs Blues offer to attend match

The man subjected to racist chanting by Chelsea fans and pushed off a train in Paris has snubbed the Premier League club鈥檚 invitation to attend a match at Stamford Bridge.

Video footage showed a group of Chelsea fans preventing the man, named as Souleymane, entering a metro train and chanting 鈥渨e鈥檙e racist, and that鈥檚 the way we like it鈥 before the Champions League match against PSG on Tuesday. Chelsea has suspended five supporters from attending matches after conducting its own investigations.

Manager Jose Mourinho said he was 鈥渄isgusted鈥 and 鈥渁shamed鈥 by the behavior, adding that the club would be writing to Souleymane to apologize and invite him to attend the return game against the French champion on March 11.

However, Souleymane told French newspaper Le Parisien: 鈥淚 appreciate Mr Mourinho鈥檚 invitation, but I can鈥檛 get my head around being in a stadium at the moment.鈥

He told Guardian newspaper: 鈥淲hat happened has left me really afraid. I just want justice to be done, no more than that. I was a little bit hurt physically but in terms of morale I was hurt a lot. It has really affected my life. I can鈥檛 go back into the Metro, it makes me really afraid.

鈥淚 don鈥檛 think you should be denied the right to take the Metro because you鈥檙e black. That鈥檚 what they wanted.鈥
