Pepe China-bound
SPANISH radio station Cadena Cope yesterday announced that Real Madrid’s 33-year-old central defender Pepe will join Chinese Super League side Hebei China Fortune when his contract expires at the end of June.
The Portuguese international, who turns 34 in February, has so far resisted offers of a new deal to remain in Madrid and Cadena Cope says he has been offered 15.5 million euros (around US$17 million) a season, around three times his current earnings, to move to China.
In England, Brazilian playmaker Philippe Coutinho has committed his future to Liverpool by signing a new “long-term” contract. Liverpool did not reveal details of the deal, but reports suggest Coutinho has signed a five-year contract worth between £150,000 (US$188,800) and £200,000 per week.
