Pulis back as manager with Palace

Crystal Palace has hired former Stoke City manager Tony Pulis, hoping he can revive the struggling club and lift it out of last place in the English Premier League.

The 55-year-old Pulis had been out of work since leaving Stoke last season and will take charge after yesterday’s league match against Hull City, with caretaker manager Keith Millen remaining in charge for the match against the Tigers.

Pulis signed a 2-1/2-year contract and his first match in charge will be against Norwich City on November 30, the Selhurt Park outfit said in a statement on its website.

Pulis succeeds Ian Holloway, who left the club last month after a disappointing start to the season following the South London’s club return to the topflight. Palace has just four points from 11 games but the club hopes Pulis can maintain his record of never having been relegated as a manager.

The Welshman’s appointment put an end to weeks of speculation after Aitor Karanka, Dan Petrescu, Chris Coleman, Andrea Stramaccioni and Iain Dowie were all linked with the job since Holloway’s departure.

Palace has struggled since being promoted last season, losing nine of its first 11 games this term.

It has been without a permanent manager since Holloway left exactly a month ago on October 23, in the aftermath of a 1-4 defeat at home to Fulham.
