Raul rejects reported Manchester City approach

REAL Madrid captain Raul Gonzalez has rejected an offer to join Manchester City, saying he wouldn't leave the Spanish club "in his wildest dreams."

Raul's agent, Gines Carvajal, was reported as saying that he received an approach from City, widely acknowledged as the world's richest club following its purchase by Abu Dhabi United Group last September.

Sports daily Marca said City were offering Raul a lucrative four-year contract, worth €40 million (US$54 million).

"I'm not even considering it because I wouldn't move from here, not in my wildest dreams. I'm only thinking about finishing my career at Real Madrid, which is my club and where I still have many things to do," Raul was quoted as saying by Marca today.

"When City's offer was put to me, I had no doubts not even for a second. My place is here and I still think that I can help to win titles."

Raul, who turns 32 next month and has spent all his career at Madrid, told Carvajal he did not want to "waste time" on the matter, the agent said.

"City has a good project but Raul is a Real Madrid player," Carvajal said.

Raul, Madrid's all-time top scorer, was playing his 699th match for the club later today at Valencia. Second-place Madrid needed to win to be assured of prolonging the title race with leaders Barcelona for another week.

Madrid has won 12 trophies with Raul, including six leagues and three European Cups.
