Rayo fights back to win 2-1 at Getafe

RAYO Vallecano fought back for a 2-1 win at crosstown rival Getafe in Madrid yesterday.

Getafe striker Alvaro Vazquez curled in a free-kick for the third-minute opener.

But Rayo dominated the rest of the way, with Leo Baptistao missing three headers before Jozabed Sanchez scored when Getafe goalkeeper Vicente Guaita left his goal to punch out a cross.

Holding midfielder Raul Baena got the winner in the 64th when he smashed home a headed pass from Gael Kakuta. Rayo rose into 11th place while Getafe remained in 13th and winless in seven rounds.

On Saturday, Antoine Griezmann headed in two more goals to lead Atletico Madrid to a 3-1 win over Levante, as the defending champion pulled to within one point of the Spanish league leader.

Sevilla remained the only undefeated team at home this season after it edged 10-man Celta Vigo 1-0 despite a lackluster performance, pulling away from both Villarreal and Malaga after they stumbled to end winning streaks.

Griezmann first reached Siqueira’s cross at the near post to turn it past goalkeeper Diego Marino, and followed that by nodding in a rebound after Marino stretched to save Mario Mandzukic’s initial try for his eighth league goal of the campaign.
