Robben, Ribery just dynamite for Bayern
ARJEN Robben scored two goals on his debut for Bayern Munich in a 3-0 victory over defending Bundesliga champion Wolfsburg on Saturday.
One day after arriving from Real Madrid and signing a four-year contract, the Dutch winger came on at the start of the second half and scored 23 minutes later in a match dominated by Bayern.
He added a second in the 80th as Wolfsburg fell to its second straight defeat and Bayern earned its first victory of the season.
"I couldn't wish for a better start," Robben said. "It's important for Franck (Ribery) and me to have freedom of movement, it makes it much more difficult for the defenders."
Earlier, Bayern Leverkusen rallied to beat Bochum 2-1 on Saturday and open a three-point lead at the top of the Bundesliga after four rounds.
Ribery, who came off the bench and proved that he and Robben could form a potent partnership, hailed the win.
"It was an important win, for us, for the fans, for everyone," Ribery said.
The Frenchman played on the left wing and provided the pass for Robben's first goal. Ribery and Robben then swapped passes at high speed before Robben slotted in the second.
In France, Lyon grabbed the provisional lead in the French league with a 3-1 win over Nancy on Saturday.
After a hat trick midweek to help Lyon qualify for the Champions League group stage, Lisandro Lopez celebrated his second Ligue 1 goal and contributed to his club's fifth consecutive win in all competitions.
Bafetimbi Gomis opened the scoring for Lyon after 36 minutes and Lopez scored five minutes into the second half.
With 10 points from four games, Lyon topped the standings.
In other matches, it was: Lens 2, Rennes 2; Lorient 1, Le Mans 0; Boulogne 0, Auxerre 0; Sochaux 1, Monaco 0.
