Ronaldo says Real's league title hopes slim
REAL Madrid's chances of winning the Spanish league title this Sunday are slim, according to Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Real forward said yesterday in a television interview that the Meringues must "keep the dream of winning the league alive" going into the final weekend.
Real trails Barcelona by one point. The Catalan club plays Valladolid on Sunday and will win the title if it matches Real's result against Malaga.
Ronaldo told Intereconomia that his biggest disappointment in his first season in Madrid was being eliminated from the Champions League by Olympique Lyon in March.
"It was a very bad moment, very difficult, but you have to take into account the circumstances," Ronaldo said. "There have been new players, a team under construction, a new coach."
Ronaldo arrived in Madrid last year from Manchester United and has so far scored 26 league goals. But he says he is desperate to win trophies.
"Success isn't a straight line, you have to slip up a bit," the winger said. "I remember in Manchester I didn't win anything in my first two years. This club will definitely win the Champions League."
While the Portugal forward said he would like to retire at Real, he did not rule out the possibility of playing for rival Barcelona one day.
"You can never say never," he said. "I don't know what will happen in the future."
