SIPG manager gets 3-match ban
SHANGHAI SIPG’s Portuguese manager Vitor Pereira has been banned for three matches and will miss the team’s crucial Chinese Super League clash against defending champion Guangzhou Evergrande on November 3.
Pereira was banned for his reactions toward referee Gu Chunhan during SIPG’s 5-0 win over Guizhou Hengfeng on October 7. Gu showed a yellow card to SIPG’s Hulk in the second half of the match, effectively ruling out the burly Brazil striker from the team’s next away match against Jiangsu Suning on Sunday. Pereira was not happy with the decision. He clappingly gestured towards Gu, who then sent him into the stands.
According to a notice by the Chinese Football Association yesterday, Pereira was given a three-match ban and fined 21,000 yuan (US$3,028) for “manners against sportsmanship which caused a negative influence.”
Pereira will miss three of the remaining five CSL matches, including the crucial Evergrande clash in Guangzhou. SIPG leads the CSL standings on 58 points, followed by Evergrande (54), Shandong Luneng (48) and Beijing Guo’an (48).
