SIPG players in Asian Cup squad

CHINA’S head coach Alain Perrin has named three Shanghai SIPG players in his 23-member squad for the Asian Cup in Australia next month.

Goalkeeper Yan Junling and midfielders Wu Lei and Cai Huikang play for Shanghai SIPG, which finished fifth in the just-finished CSL season.

Not a single player from Shanghai Shenhua made it to the squad.

Guangzhou Evergrande’s 2013 Asian player of the year Zheng Zhi will bolster the midfield along with Hao Junmin. Both of them have experience of playing in England and German leagues.

The roster also includes Guangzhou striker Gao Lin and his midfield teammate Zhang Linpeng. He is joined at the front by Yang Xu, who plays for Shandong Luneng. Young midfielder Liu Binbin will make his cup debut after a strong domestic season.

China scraped into the Cup on goal difference thanks to a late penalty in its 1-3 defeat to Iraq in March.
