SIPG’s first overseas fan’s group set up in Japan

SHANGHAI SIPG’s first overseas fans group, “Red Sakura,” was established in Tokyo a day before the team’s AFC Champions League match against the Urawa Red Diamonds.

The fans group consists mostly of SIPG’s followers who live in Japan. It is also the Chinese Super League side’s 11th approved fan’s organization. Red Sakura will organize teams to take part in the 2017 Japan Overseas Chinese Football Super League this year.

Some 400 SIPG fans traveled to Japan’s Saitama to support the team. However, the 0-1 defeat allowed the J League side to move level with SIPG on nine points in Group F. Both teams need just one point in the next two games to advance to the knockout stage.

In Shanghai, hundreds of SIPG fans, who could not make the trip to Japan, gathered at Shanghai Everbright Convention and Exhibition Center to watch the match on a big screen.

The event was organized by SIPG’s official fan’s group XLHfans, which organizes activities relating to the team on a monthly base.
