Schalke signs Choupo-Moting

SCHALKE has signed Cameroon forward Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting on a free transfer from Bundesliga rival Mainz.

Schalke said in a statement that the 25-year-old Choupo-Moting signed a deal through June 2017.

Schalke general manager Horst Heldt said, “He can play in several positions but we’re planning on a central position in attack for him initially.”

The Hamburg-born Choupo-Moting played for Hamburger SV and spent one season on loan at Nuremburg before joining Mainz in 2011. He scored 20 goals and set up seven more in 74 Bundesliga games for Mainz.

Choupo-Moting played for Germany’s youth sides up to under-21 level before opting for Cameroon’s national side and played at the World Cup.
