A LOCALLY-ASSEMBLED five-a-side outfit, Shanghai DIB, surprised a team of former internationals, led by star players like Michael Owen and Paul Scholes, 11-7, during the European Football Legend Tour at Shanghai Indoor Stadium yesterday.

For Shanghai, Didier Njewel of Cameroon scored a hat-trick in its surprising win.

Manchester United great Scholes also found the net thrice for the European veterans’ side which included former Liverpool, Real Madrid, Newcastle striker Owen and a host of other star names like Andy Cole, French defender Marcel Desailly, Spaniard Michel Salgado among others.

Meanwhile, at a sports forum held earlier in the day, Liverpool FC announced a cooperation deal with HUPU Sports Media Co which will set up the English club’s Chinese-language official website. Liverpool flew in club legend Ian Rush for the event.

The sports marketing company already owns a popular sports news website hupu.com on the Chinese mainland.

During a question-answer session, Owen, who hit the highs with Liverpool, said Uruguay striker Luiz Suarez was the key to Reds success this season.

“He’s doing great for LFC this season till now. If the club wants to achieve something for the season, he will play the key role,” Owens said.
