SENEGAL’S US Ouakam team was suspended from the country’s football federation yesterday after accusations its supporters threw projectiles at rival fans triggering a stampede that left eight dead. Witnesses said Ouakam fans threw stones and other objects at Stade de Mbour supporters after Mbour took a 2-1 lead in extra time of the League Cup final on Saturday. “Union Sportive de Ouakam are temporarily suspended,” the Senegalese Football Federation said in a statement, given “the loss of lives and serious injuries” at Dakar’s Demba Diop Stadium.
