Shandong hires Menezes

Chinese Super League side Shandong Luneng has named Brazilian manager Mano Menezes as its new head coach after ending its contract with his compatriot Cuca.

The club issued a statement on its official website yesterday morning. The duration of the new contract and salary details were not given, though Brazilian media reports said it was a four-year deal with a monthly salary of 490,000 euros (US$533,365). The 53-year-old former Brazil defender started his coaching career in 1997 and was named Brazilian national team head coach in 2010 before being sacked two years later. Menezes was managing Brazilian club Cruzeiro before the Shandong deal. Shandong finished third in the 2015 CSL season under Cuca, who was given a seven-month ban in the middle of the season for attacking a linesman after a league match against Guizhou Renhe on June 4. Cuca was fined 140,000 yuan (US$21,900) and missed the rest of the season.
