Shanghai Shenhua signs in Chelsea striker

CHELSEA striker Nicolas Anelka has officially signed with Shanghai Shenhua Football Club to play the Chinese Super League (CSL) in the next two years, the club announced this morning.

Zhu Jun, chief investor of the club, posted a picture of Anelka holding a Shenhua jersey on his microblog as he announced the news today.

The club also posted the information on its official website at 8:17am that Shenhua had made an agreement with Chelsea to transfer the French forward to Shanghai in January.

Shenhua said the 32-year-old player had signed a two-year contract with the club and should wear his new blue jersey to play for the team in next season of CSL.

However, the value of the contract was not revealed and it should include the commercial cooperation between Anelka and The9.com, a local online game company owned by Zhu.

Anelka's appearance at the Chinese Super League has become a hot topic on Weibo.com, a Twitter-like microblogging site in China, with more than 980,000 posts recorded in five hours.

Anelka scored 59 times in his 185 appearances with Chelsea in the England Premier League.
