Shenhua rallies past East Asia to take derby

SHANGHAI Shenhua rallied to a 2-1 home victory over Shanghai East Asia in a testy derby last night to remain unbeaten after seven games in the Chinese Super League.

The game witnessed Shenhua's fourth comeback victory this season. East Asia took the lead in the 38th minute courtesy of a penalty from their most productive player Wu Lei after Shenhua defender Li Jianbin dragged down Colombian striker Cabezas in the box.

Midfielder Xu Liang equalized for the hosts with a powerful shot in East Asia's box in the 70th. The visitors were reduced to 10 men when scorer Wu was sent off in the 73rd for two yellow cards - the second for lashing out at a rival player.

Shenhua duly took advantage, with Colombian midfielder and captain Giovanni Moreno sealing the three points with a header in the 86th from a Song Boxuan cross.

Shenhua, which was docked six points before the start of the season for fixing a match 10 years ago, climbed to ninth in the 16-team CSL table. East Asia remained seventh.

Exciting game

"It was an exciting game, we had some obvious chances in the first half but their team controlled the ball well and were very fast. We were more focused in the second half and played better and made some changes," said Shenhua coach Sergio Batista. "It was a very good result for us. Three points are very important as I always say. If we hadn't been docked six points before the season, our ranking would have been better."

However, the Argentine was not particularly happy with another comeback win, saying, "I feel it's a big problem but I think I'll let them (players) fix it. "As to how to come back, I didn't tell them anything. I just told them to have a right attitude and the substitution seemed work.""
