Shenhua sells key players to Shandong
Shanghai Shenhua goalkeeper Wang Dalei and captain defender Dai Lin have been sold to Shandong Luneng for the 2014 Chinese Super League season, Shenhua confirmed on its website yesterday.
The key players reportedly were sold for more than 40 million yuan (US$6.6 million). Shenhua has struggled financially and has applied to relocate to Kunming after a Yunnan-based company stepped in to provide 30 million yuan in funds. Shenhua did not say whether the transfers were to raise funds to keep the club in Shanghai. Shandong finished second in last season’s CSL and also qualified for the 2014 Asian Champions League. Wang had played 141 games for Shenhua while Dai pulled on the club’s colors 110 times.
