Shenhua stays 3rd
SHANGHAI Greenland Shenhua was held to a 2-2 draw by Henan Jianye in the Chinese Super League yesterday.
The draw, however, was good enough for Shenhua to remain in the third place with three matches left for the season. Colombian Giovanni Moreno opened the scoring with a header 13 minutes into the match but Henan’s Filipino striker Javier Patino equalized 11 minutes into second half. Moreno slotted home from the spot in the 60th minute when Shenhua’s Lu Zheng was brought down but Patino scored again with a bicycle kick just three minutes later.
Shenhua remains in the third place with 46 points — seven less than Jiangsu Suning and three more than fourth placed city rival Shanghai SIPG, which lost to Jiangsu 1-2 on Saturday.
A third place finish would seal the Asian Champions League spot for Shenhua — a task assigned to Spanish head coach Gregorio Manzano, who has been linked with the China national team job. The Spaniard said on Saturday that he was only concentrating on the season’s last three matches but would consider options at the end of the season.
