Shenhua to welcome SIPG in Shanghai derby at partially open Hongkou Stadium on May 20

THE Shanghai derby between Greenland Shenhua and SIPG will be played on May 20 at the Hongkou Football Stadium.

It will be the first match to be played at the stadium after it was closed for repairs following a fire in March.

The keenly awaited fixture was originally scheduled for 7:30pm the same day but will now be played at 3:30pm in the afternoon because of continuing power supply problems.

The stadium -- Shanghai Greenland Shenhua’s home ground – has been undergoing repairs ever since a fire broke out at a rock climbing club in the stadium on March 28. The fire partially damaged the stadium’s roof and affected the power supply.

Six stands at the stadium will remain closed, thus limiting the number of tickets available for fans. Scalpers are already charging a hefty 1,600 yuan (US$232) per ticket online.

Shenhua played seven away games in a row in both CSL and China FA Cup. It is seventh in the 16-team CSL standing with 10 points. It plays Henan Jianye on Saturday in Zhengzhou, Henan Province.

City rival SIPG is second with 17 points, and will play Tianjin Teda away on Sunday.
