Shenhua wins on Batista’s return to Hongkou

SHANGHAI Greenland Shenhua beat Dalian Aerbin 2-0 last night in head coach Sergio Batista’s first match at Hongkou Football Stadium since returning to take over from Shen Xiangfu at the end of last month.

Veteran Shen had been leading the team since the Argentine left Shenhua in the middle of last year when the club encountered a financial crisis.

Colombian Giovanni Moreno scored both the goals, one in each half.

Earlier, Shanghai Shenxin edged Harbin Yiteng 1-0 thanks to a penalty from midfielder Wang Yun after his shot was blocked by Harbin’s Shao Shuai inside the box 14 minutes into the game. Shao was shown a red card, and Wang did the rest. It was Shenxin’s second victory of the season.

Shanghai East Asia continue to be the top ranked Shanghai team in the CSL standings after beating Changchun Yatai 1-0 at Shanghai Stadium. Midfielder Wang Jiayu scored the goal in the 6th minute from a Wu Lei pass.

East Asia sits third in the 16-team table on 13 points, two behind both Guangzhou Evergrande and Beijing Guo’an, after six matches.

Greenland Shenhua has 8 points and lies in seventh position while Shenxin is 12th on 6 points.
