Shenxin loses 3rd straight but East Asia triumphs

SHANGHAI Shenxin suffered its third straight defeat in the Chinese Super League following a 1-3 setback against Guangzhou R&F yesterday but another local team fared better as Shanghai East Asia ran out 2-1 winner away to Hangzhou Greentown.

Shenxin drew first blood just 12 minutes into the game. Brazilian striker Kieza was knocked down in the box, and took the penalty himself to score the opener for the visiting side.

Guangzhou’s Morocco striker Abderazak Hamdallah then took charge of proceedings, scoring in the 25th, and two minutes into the second half on comfortable assists from teammates. He then dribbled past three Shenxin defenders in injury time to complete his hat-trick and a 3-1 scoreline.

“Our defense is a new combination. We still need more training to gel,” Shenxin midfielder Wang Yun explained.

In Hangzhou, neighboring Zhejiang Province, Shanghai East Asia overcame Greentown thanks to goals from Swedish striker Tobias Hysen and Wu Lei in the first half. Wang Song pulled one back from the penalty spot for the hosts two minutes into the second half.

Wu has scored in each of the first three CSL games. The 22-year-old Nanjing native bagged 15 goals for East Asia last season. “We played well. The whole team is in good form thanks to the overseas winter training we had before the new season kicked off,” Wu said.

The other Shanghai team, Greenland Shenhua, will take on Beijing Guo’an in the capital tomorrow evening.

In other games yesterday, Henan Jianye drew 2-2 with Dalian Aerbin and Jiangsu Sainty beat Harbin Yiteng 2-1.
