Shenxin stuns Guo鈥檃n but Shenhua held

SHANGHAI Shenxin pulled off a stunning 2-1 home victory over Beijing Guo’an last night in the 12th round of the Chinese Super League.

Languishing at the wrong end of the 16-team CSL table, Shenxin secured the three points courtesy of a first-half strike by Johnny and a 48th-minute winner from Lim You-hwan after Zhang Chengdong had equalized for the visitors in the 32nd.

The loss prevented Beijing from provisionally taking over at the top of the table ahead of defending champion Guangzhou Evergrande’s trip to Hangzhou Greentown today. Both have 27 points but Beijing has played one game more.

Shenxin still remains 13th after 12 matches, below the other two Shanghai clubs in the CSL but equal on points with Dalian Aerbin, which has played a game less, and Liaoning Hongyun.

Shanghai Greenland Shenhua is a point above the trio on 14 after being held 3-3 away to bottom-placed Harbin Yiteng earlier in the day.

Brazilian striker Dori’s hat-trick secured a point for Yiteng in the Heilongjiang Province capital.

The two sides scored three goals within three minutes late in the first half. Dori opened the scoring in the 36th, chipping the ball over Shenhua goalkeeper Qiu Shengjiong.

Shenhua’s Jiang Kun equalized two minutes later, only to see Dori put the hosts ahead within a minute.

The visitors moved up a gear after the break, with striker Gao Di and Colombian midfielder Giovanni scoring in the 71st and 72nd to edge ahead.

Just when it seemed Shenhua would savor a long-awaited away victory Harbin was awarded a penalty in the 85th. Wang Changqing was ruled to have uppended Harbin’s Liu Xudong in the box. Up stepped Dori, who managed to deceive Qiu and send the ball into the net, leading an irate Shenhua head coach Sergio Batista to exchange angry words with the fourth official.

“We took it too easy in the first half,” said Shenhua’s veteran midfielder Jiang. “We were like two different teams in either half of the game.”

Elsewhere, it was: Liaoning Hongyun 1, Henan Jianye 0; Tianjin Teda 2, Changchun Yatai 1; and Guizhou Renhe 2, Guangzhou R&F 1.

The third local team, Shanghai East Asia, which lies a heady fifth on 19 points, visits Shandong Luneng, which also has 19 points, today.
