Smeltz signs for Shandong Luneng
GOLD Coast United said New Zealand striker Shane Smeltz is leaving the Australian A-League club to join Chinese team Shandong Luneng.
Gold Coast said yesterday it had agreed to sell Smeltz but did not disclose the transfer fee. Clubs in Asia, Turkey and the Middle East reportedly had shown an interest in Smeltz after his impressive performances in the World Cup for New Zealand. Smeltz scored in the 1-1 draw against the 2006 winner Italy. The 28-year-old Smeltz has been one of the leading goalscorers in the A-League since his debut for Wellington in 2007, scoring 40 goals in 65 matches.
