Strootman to Roma鈥檚 rescue

Kevin Strootman rescued AS Roma’s unbeaten record in Serie A when he scored in the 90th minute to give it a 1-1 draw at Atalanta yesterday.
Davide Brivio had given Atalanta the lead early in the second half with a free kick which went under the wall and caught Roma goalkeeper Morgan De Sanctis napping.
Roma moved on to 34 points from 14 games, level with leader Juventus which was hosting Udinese later.
Inter Milan was on the wrong end of a late goal as it was held 1-1 at home to Sampdoria, Renan equalizing in the 89th to cancel out Fredy Guarin’s opener.
Earlier, Mario Balotelli rifled in a second-half free kick to help troubled AC Milan to a 3-1 win at bottom club Catania, ending a chaotic week for the seven-time European champion.
Kaka was also on target as Milan, which started the weekend a dismal 13th in the table, came from behind to end a five-match winless league run.
Catania stunned the visitors when Lucas Castro scored with a shot which deflected off Daniel Bonera’s back in the 13th but Riccardo Montolivo levelled six minutes later.
Balotelli missed a free header on the hour but atoned three minutes later when he blasted a low free kick through the Catania wall to put Milan ahead. Kaka made the game safe when he broke down the right and lashed a right-foot shot into the roof of the net with nine minutes left.
Balotelli was replaced seven minutes from time after getting into a heated argument with Catania defender Nicolas Spolli.
Milan endured a troubled week off the field with Chief Executive Adriano Galliani announcing angrily on Friday that he was resigning after nearly 28 years at the club. On Saturday, he changed his mind and agreed to stay on, sharing his role with club president Silvio Berlusconi’s daughter Barbara.
