Suarez charged over obscene gesture

LIVERPOOL striker Luis Suarez was charged with improper conduct by the Football Association on Wednesday over an alleged obscene gesture he made toward Fulham fans.

Suarez, who is already being investigated by the FA over an allegation he racially abused Manchester United's Patrice Evra, was photographed walking from the pitch following Monday's 1-0 Premier League defeat in west London with his middle finger raised, apparently at the home supporters.

The FA said the Uruguay international has until next Monday to respond to the charge.

Birmingham defender Stephen Carr was banned for one match last season over a similar incident involving fans of local rival Aston Villa, while Newcastle midfielder Joey Barton was warned about his future conduct for an insulting gesture toward Liverpool's Fernando Torres.

Suarez was charged last month with racially abusing Evra.

The FA also charged Liverpool "with failing to ensure its players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion" after Jay Spearing was sent off.
